A: Senshi-Con is a convention held in Anchorage, Alaska for fans of Japanese animation and video games. This is the sixth year the convention has existed.
A: These matters are still to be decided. Traditionally, Senshi-Con took place in February or March. Keep checking the front page for updates!
A: The admission prices are explained on the registration page.
A: Yes! Senshi-Con began on March 4, 2005 at West High School, as a small con put together by high school students who were disappointed at the lack of conventions in Alaska and wanted to start their own. After the group members graduated and the con grew bigger, we moved to a bigger venue at the UAA Student Union and incorporated more events.
A: Due to the fact that we're all the way in Alaska, Senshi-Con is significantly smaller than the major cons you see in the continental U.S. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing! It also means smaller registration lines, more chances to get onstage and enter contests, and less stuffy crowds. During the recent Senshi-Cons, the attendance ranged between 600 and 1200 people.
A: You name it...cosplay, karaoke, video games, card games, vendors, booths, anime showings and more. If you have an event you'd like to see, send us an e-mail or post about it on the forums!
A: If you'd like to be staff, check out the staffing page or come to one of our Saturday meetings (the details are listed on the related forum thread). You can also help promote the con by distributing the printable flyers (also available on main page).
A: Many anime fans "cosplay" - dress up as characters from their favorite anime, manga or games. Costumes make the event more festive, and wearing a costume will earn you a discount if you pay at the door, but wearing a costume is completely optional. Alaska gets cold in the winter, but the building gets warm inside during the con, so we suggest taking a heavy outer jacket to wear on your way in and cool clothes to wear during the con itself. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, especially if you plan on playing DDR!
A: Please see the guidelines page for a detailed explanation of Senshi-Con's weapons policy. Note that live steel and guns/gun replicas are not allowed, and prop weapons must be peace bonded upon entry.
A: Of course! And besides, you'll get to meet lots of new friends in the process
A: "Senshi" is the Japanese word for "Warrior".
